Girls in the Gaming World

I am pretty sure this topic has come up over and over again. But its also one of those topics that can be argued over and over again and it seems that no one will really gets tired of hearing old stuffs and sometimes the new stuff that is brought in through these type of conversations.

I am a girl and have been playing video games since before I can even remember. I literally made to Old NES smoke from playing so much. This is possible if you are a hardcore gamer like me then you can do this. I have a job in the gaming industry. I also went to school to become a Game Designer and Modeler. My three most recent games on my Xbox 360 are Resident Evil 5, FarCry2, and Prince of Persia. In fact my library of 360 games includes the following: Battlefield Bad Company, Halo 3, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect. Those are the ones I can remember on top of my head.

My choice of video games seems to market towards the male video gamers. Though there are plenty of girls out there who also play these games. We aren’t always going out shopping, getting are hair and nails done, or gossiping about the next big thing. Majority of the girls that play now have been playing video games since they were young.

TIMES ARE CHANGING.

Though I will admit there are plenty of girls out there that don’t play these types of shooter games. They tend to drift towards RPGs or The SIMS. Some even just play sport titles, with the company of their partner. Some play horror genres some like playing Tetris. Video game Company’s do know about this and do make games that lead towards the female part of the population.

WE ARE OUT THERE.

Now, there may be reasons on why we are so hard to find in the gaming world. We are here to play and have fun. Easy enough right? I know I have been harassed several times while play Halo 3, by little teenage boys who think their badass or something. Then they go on a rampage when I start to pwn them. These are the times where I just simply log out and put in a different game.

Sometimes I take the beating and tell them that the only tits that they will ever see are their moms. I am not really good with this whole bashing on and frankly I don’t enjoy it. I tend to be quite and if one of my friends are on and ask me a question that is the only time I will answer.

Here are a few things that I have witness while playing:

1. Guys simply can’t come to the fact that girls play video games. Guess they have been living in a cave for many years to not know that girls do in fact play video games.
2. If they do, they think we are hideous creatures with beer bellies. This one annoys me a bit because I know a lot of great looking girls out there that are gamers. In fact a few of my friends are even models. (No, not all models are brainless bitches.)
3. I get asked “Are you a girl or a young boy?” I laugh a lot with this one. Guys simply can’t tell the different. I guess they really don’t get out much.
4. I have gotten “Suck my dick you whore.” This one really took me by surprise and I really didn’t know what to say. All I could think about was “is what their parent’s teach them?” It only happened once and it made me not want to play Halo 3 anymore. Sad I know. I know not all the guys in the world have mouths like this. But come on a little respect?
5. Many times I have been asked what my age is. Why would anyone care about my age? Then I just come to the conclusion that it might be some type of pick up line. (Guys reading this I would really like to know the answer to this one.)
6. There are nice guys on line that you sort of formed a “crew” with and play games with every single day. I am constantly asked to view their newest maps in FarCry 2. Being a video game tester does have its advantages.
7. Then you have the friends on your friends list that your real friends in life who will vouch for you in anything and have your back for the most part.
8. And I can’t forget the random invites to play games because really you’re that good. (Or the horrible truth that people are just looking for random people to join their rooms to get a full room and it doesn’t matter if your good or not cause they don’t care.)

It’s sad I know. These lovely gals are just models for some T.V. show and really they aren’t supposed to be playing the Xbox, probably for an ad something. But it’s kind of bad to see that the female gamer population has been labeled as this. Though I do find this pretty funny and I only make those faces when I am killing my friends and having my score higher than their.
